Clarence D Fields
MilitaryMajor Clarence D (‘Pappy’) Fields was the chief engineering officer (S-4) for the 95th Bomb Group at Horham from 1-Mar-1943 to 30-Nov-1944. While not regularly assigned to a flight crew, Pappy did fly on 8 missions with the 95th between 18-Mar-1944 and 12-Aug-1944. His first mission was as an observer, 3 missions were as a waist gunner, and 4 missions were as Flight Engineer / Top Turret Gunner.
Before being assigned to the 95th, Pappy swerved as a Captain with Headquarters, 34th Bomb Group, Second Air Force in 1942 at Geiger Field in Spokane, WA.
Pappy had been a Master Sergeant in the pre-war Army Air Corps whose service had been in multi-engine bombers from their inception. He retired from the Air Force on 28-Feb-1947.
