Bennington, VT | 7 May 2008 | Charles Cappellino, 87, died Wednesday, May 7 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington. He resided on Griffin Avenue in Hoosick Falls. Born July 14, 1920 in Fredonia, N.Y., son of Peter and Leona Giodonia Cappellino, he graduated from Brocton High School, Brocton, N.Y. and later graduated from Aviation Ground School in Elmira, N.Y. He then went to work at Curtis Wright in Buffalo, N.Y. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Corp where he became a flight engineer on a B-17 of the 8th Air Force 95th Bomb Group. Charles completed 35 combat missions in the European theater of World War II. He married his wife Jane in 1945. He acquired a Chemical Engineering degree from Tri State University in Angola, Indiana. After graduation he took a position at International Paper in Niagara Falls, N.Y. as a chemist for the former Wood Flong Company. During his 32 years of service he became Technical Director and Vice President of Operations. He held two patents which greatly contributed to the success of the Company. Charles retired in 1982. He was the loving husband of the late Jane Cappellino, and loving father of daughter, Linda Witham of Medfield, Mass. Besides his daughter, he leaves two sisters, Lucy Castilone of San Bernardino, Calif. and Phyllis Lankford of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. |
