East Lansing, MI 5 September 2006 Charles J. Prince was born in 1918 in Lansing, Mich. He graduated from E. Lansing High in 1936 and enlisted in the Army Air Corps on March 27, 1941. In 1943, he entered Pilot training School. Class 43-G and won his wings and commission on July 29, 1943 at Ellington Field, and was assigned to a bomber crew and trained at Walla Walla, WA. A few weeks later, he was sitting on the right seat of a B-17 with the 95th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force flying out of England. He was shot down on his 12th mission over Brunswick, Germany on Feb. 10, 1944. He was 25 years old. Lt. Prince spent 15 months as a POW at Stalag Luft 1 in Barth, Germany and was liberated on May 1, 1945 by the Russians. He was awarded the Air Medal, Unit Citation, and POW Medal. After the war, Charles J. Prince went into the construction business (gravel & ready mix concrete) with a childhood friend. He retired in 1973.
