The original pilot for this crew, William M. Bowen was KIA on 16 September 1944 while on a practice mission. The crew had yet to begin their combat tour. Svobodny was assigned to take over the crew. Amarillo, TX, USA 13 November 2007 Arthur James Dyson, 84, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007. Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. today in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in the church with Monsignor Joseph Tash as celebrant. Burial will be at 11:30 CST Monday in Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Dyson was born June 15, 1923, in Milford, Mass., to Edgar James and Isabel Louise Dyson. He grew up in Casper, Wyo., and graduated from high school in Casper in 1940. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1942, graduating from pilot training in February 1944. He flew 35 missions as a B-24 pilot in the 8th Air Force stationed in England. He married Eva K. Frisch in 1949. She preceded him in death in 1985. He graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in 1951 and worked as a petroleum engineer in Texas, Louisiana and the Rocky Mountains until he retired in 1985. He had been a resident of Amarillo since 1982. He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, Knights of Columbus, the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the International Association of Drilling Contractors. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He married Margaret M. Heberling in 1996. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gordon E. Dyson; a sister, Gladys E. Dyson; and his parents. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; a son, Tony Dyson and wife Denise of Littleton, Colo.; three stepchildren, Raymond Heberling, Robert Heberling and Teresa Hunt and husband Dennis, all of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
