Shot down by enemy aircraft on 6th mission 19-Mar-44 returning from bombing marshalling yards in Steyr in B-24 42-52225 'Moo Juice'. Suffered burns from burning fuel while exiting the ball turret.

Avoided capture for 3 days. Brought to German hospital for treatment of burns and wounds incurred while exiting aircraft. Prisoner of War (POW)

 

Awards: AM, PH, POW, EAME, WWII Victory.

 

Post war: Joined FDNY 1947, Ret'd Asst Chief, Brooklyn Borough Commander
1975 due to line of duty injuries.
