Object Number - UPL 35005 - Tech Sergeant Albert Williamson of the 384th Bomb Group receiving an award for completing 30 missions.
Albert Williamson, known as "Willie" attended Dwight Morrow High School with his best friend Burt Wyman. After graduating in August 1941 they worked as bus boys on the cruise ship MS Kungsholm (1928 - 1941) of the Swedish American line. They went on one cruise to Havana, Cuba; Cap-Haitien, Haiti; and Nassau in the Bahamas.
Willie initially wanted to serve on a battleship but ended up being joining the Army Air Corps. He served as a radio operator and gunner with the 384th Bomb Group and flew 30 combat missions over Europe from April 27, 1944 to December 28, 1944.
In 1945, more than a year or so after Burt was killed in action, Willie made his way to Florida. There he met with his best friend’s brother, Robert or “Biff” as he was often called, and they spent some time together.
Chris Wyman, Robert's son recalls:
'After the war he and his wife would occasionally get together with my parents at school reunions and the like. Then, later on, he would write to me and send photos of Burt’s grave with flowers and cards and flags. He also sent copies of official information that he requested from the American and Canadian governments about Burt'
