8th Air Force Field Order 373, 374
7 June 1944Mission Details
Description: FIGHTER ESCORT
Notes: VIII Fighter Command furnishes area support for beachhead areas in the early morning and to heavy bomber operations at midday and in the late afternoon, at the same time maintaining harassment of communications and flying shipping patrol. Luftwaffe harassment is light as the Allies have nearly complete air superiority over Western France. The fighters engage in general strafing operations of anything moving on a road or railroad. Claims include 0-0-2 on the ground for the bomber escort and 20-0-12 on the ground for the strafing missions.
