Description: FIGHTER ESCORT
Notes: A mix of 859 aircraft from 8th Air Force and 9th Air Force provide escort: 132 P-38s, 485 P-47s, P-51s 242, of these IX Fighter Command provided 314 aircraft. 20th Fighter Group also despatched 8 P-38s to escort RAF Warwicks looking for ditched crews. 352nd Fighter Group despatched P-47s on penetration and P-51s to carry out sweeps. 356th Fighter Group P-47s carried out dive bombing attack after escort duties. Claims bundled and include 6-0-7 on the ground. Only 8th Air Force losses are included in the table. Losses in 9th Air Force were 363rd Fighter Group 4 P-51s, 362nd Fighter Group 1 P-47.
