Notes: 1st Bomb Division was made up of 91st Bomb Group, 92nd Bomb Group, 303rd Bomb Group, 305th Bomb Group, 306th Bomb Group, 351st Bomb Group, 379th Bomb Group, 381st Bomb Group, 384th Bomb Group, 401st Bomb Group, 457th Bomb Group. 25 V-Weapon sites were briefed, 21 actually attacked; 5 others attacked as T/Os because some squadrons had trouble finding the primaries in the haze. 457t BG - MISSION NO. 34 - ZUDAUSQUES, FRANCE 27 APRIL, 1944 Rocket sites and anti-invasion fortification in the Calais and Cherbourg areas were targets for the Eighth Air Force. The rocket site assigned to the 457th was in the hamlet of Zudausques, located inland from Calais, which had been attacked before but was still in operation. Twenty-four aircraft were dispatched on the mission. Major Leroy Watson served as Air Commander, and Lt. Mark R. Belcher was pilot. There was no Wing formation. All groups went alone to individual targets. Bombing results were fair. Flak was moderate but accurate. Several aircraft were damaged by new incendiary flak, and brought back pieces of rocket shells. Thirteen aircraft had minor and five major damage. 457th BG - MISSION NO. 35 - NANCY/ESSEY, FRANCE 27 APRIL, 1944 The Group flew two missions on 27 April, the target of the second mission being the Nancy/Essey Airfield. This airfield had previously been the target for Mission No. 32 on 25 April. Twelve aircraft participated in the mission. The Group flew the low box for the 94th Combat Wing. Major Fred A. Spencer was Air Commander and Lt. Vinton H. Mays was pilot. Visibility was restricted, but bombing results were good. The Group encountered no enemy aircraft, and flak was light. All aircraft returned without damage. A B-24 joined the formation in the No. 7 position of the low box and bombed with the Group.
