Six of the crew of a 305th Bomb Group B-17 Flying Fortress that shot down eleven Luftwaffe Focke-Wulf 190's in a single raid before being shot down themselves, and survived thirty hours at sea before being rescued by a Royal Navy ship. They have each been awarded the Purple Heart. Passed for publication 2 Jun 1943. Printed caption on reverse: 'One Flying Fortress Destroyed Eleven Fw.190's. They shot these enemy planes down before being shot down themselves after a raid on Germany and were rescued from the sea by a British Ship after thirty hours on the water. O.P.S.
