Formation of B-26 Marauder medium bombers of the Ninth US Air Force flying over clouds effected, January 22, 1945, a blind bombing attack against enemy communications near Simmern, Germany, 25 miles south of Koblenz. A vital supply line for German Troops was rendered unserviceable as the northwest approach to a railroad bridge was cut by direct hits and an abutment damaged, whilst a span collapsed. Direct hits also cut the embankment and railroad tracks. THIS PHOTO SHOWS: US B-26 Marauder medium bombing planes flying over the clouds near Simmern, Germany, as their bombs simultaneously cascade toward the targets. On their return to base, the crews reported that "results were unobserved due to cloud cover over the target." Subsequent photographs showed that direct hits had been scored.
