On 11 September 1944, 1st Lt James Russell had just destroyed an Fw 190 in this aircraft when another fighter hit him in the cockpit with a 20mm shell. Near Fulda, when his aircraft started to burn, he crash-landed it and managed to get about 150 ft away from the wreckage, and then passed out. MACR 8987.
