"Baby Bug" # 42-94865 was first assigned to the 490th Bomb Group/850th Bomb Squadron, then transferred to the 493rd Bomb Group/862nd Bomb Squadron for a short while. It was piloted by Lt Richard B. Lewis of the 493rd on the 19 July 1944 mission to Saarbrucken, Germany. Transferred to the 801st Bomb Group/406th Bomb Squadron (Night Leaflet Squadron), painted black and renamed "Baby Bug II". Involved in an accident in England on 4-5 January 1945, it was repaired and had its name changed again, as "Baby Bug III".
