Delivered Tulsa 14/3/44; MacDill 23/3/44; Dow Fd 6/4/44; Assigned 401BS/91BG [LL-K] Bassingbourn 22/4/44; Missing in Action Berlin 24/5/44 with Bill Nee, Co-pilot: Reg Arangona, Flight engineer/top turret gunner: Gaetano Scida (3 Prisoner of War); Bombardier: Dick Markley, Radio Operator: Phil Branner, Ball turret gunner: Leon Bielawski (3INT); Navigator: Fred Neel, Waist gunner: Bob Heimbach,Tail gunner: Don Spaulding (3 Killed in Action); enemy aircraft attack set fire in cockpit, three bailed. Nav took over and headed for Sweden with tg as cp and ship crashed near coast in water, but Neel went down with it, his body recovered in July; Missing Air Crew Report 5358.
