Object Number - UPL 15274 - P-51C 42-103036 was one of the first Mustangs assigned to the 335th Fighter Squadron, Debden.
This was one of the first Mustangs assigned to the 335th Fighter Squadron.
It was supposed to have been an RAF Mustang III FB142, but was diverted to the USAAF.
Later transferred to the 555FTS, 496FTG, 8AF USAAF.
Lt Magnusun took off from Goxhill on solo instrument training flight on 7th June 1944. The weather was cloudy and a mid air collision occured with P-51C 42-103007. Lt Magnusun stated that he never saw the aircraft that hit him. With the right wing torn off, he bailed successfully. Lt Moritz, first time up in a P-51, in 42-103007 was unable to get clear and died in the resulting crash.
