Original pilot was William T. Chapman, Jr. In Sept of '43, he had a cold and loaned his plane to Charlton.
The aircraft, piloted by 2LT Quentin Charlton, was despatched on a fighter sweep in the Calaise/Egmond area. The aircraft apparently ran out of fuel on the return about 25 miles east of Manston and 2LT Charlton baled out into the sea. Air-Sea Rescue (ASR) was unable to find him and he was lost in the sea. 1KIA MACR 672.
