B-17F 41-24449 'Short Snorter' was assigned 401BS/91BG [LL-B] Bangor 31-Aug-42; Bassingbourn 1-Oct-42. On 20-Dec-43 the aircraft was damaged on the mission to Romilly, France with Capt William Harris, but limped back to base OK. 10RTD



Shot down 30-Dec-42 by FW190s shortly after the leaving the target of the U-Boat pens at Lorient, France. Aircraft was set afire and exploded at 21,000 feet. This was the 3rd mission for this aircraft. 10KIA MACR 3265

Lorient, France 30 December 1942 Aircraft wa attacked, head-on, by German fighters and set afire. Exploded at 21,000 feet about 5 minutes after leaving the target and the debris fell into the Atlantic.
