The B-24D, 41-23682, named, The Blasted Event, was originally in the 8th Air Force, the 93rd Bomb Group, and the 329th Bomb Squadron in Britain. It was placed on temporary duty (TDY) to the 9th Air Force at Benghazi, Libya, to help with Operation Tidal Wave, to destroy the oil refineries at Ploesti, Romania. The airplane and crew returned safely to Benghazi, Libya. RTB. 1 Aug 1943.



After the crew and, The Blasted Event, returned to Britain and converted to carpetbagger duties, they were reassigned to the 409th Bomb Squadron, and the 329th Bomb Squadron, both in the 93rd Bomb Group, and, then, to the 858th Bomb Squadron in the 492nd Bomb Group, all in the 8th Air Force.



On 21 November 1944, The Blasted Event, crashed on take off at Harrington, U.K. with a collapsed nose wheel assembly. The plane was so badly damaged, it resulted in being Struck Off Charge. SOC. 24 Nov 44.
