P-38H-5-LO 42-67069 was assigned to the 55FG/338FS at Nuthampstead, UK. On 29-Nov-43 the aircraft, piloted by 2LT Fleming W. Suiter, was despatched with other P-38s from 55FG to provide escort to bombers attacking at Bremen, Germany. When the flight was near Emmen, Holland they were attacked by about 30 German fighters. 2LT Suiter attempted to esacpe from the attack by entering a could bank but his aircraft was shot down. He managed to bale out of the stricken aircraft and was captured as a Prioner of War. The aircraft crashed at Roswinkel near Emmen, Holland. 1POW MACR 1273.
