B-24 Liberator

The B-24 - D - 75 - CO- SN #42-40609 - 8- 93- 330 - was lost on Operation Tidal Wave, 1 Aug 43, Ploesti Romania - MACR 335 - Pilot Worthy A. Long. Norman C. Adams, was the Navigator/Bombardier. He was shot down in the low level raid over Ploesti 1 Aug 43 and spent 18 months in the Timsul de Jus prison camp north of Ploesti. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Purple Heart, the Soldiers Medal, and the Air Medal. Failed to Return - Combat damage (AA) # 1 & 4 engines, tail turret, nose, four feet left wing tip. Crash landed Ploesti, Romania. Six of the crew were KIA and four became POW's. MACR 335.
