It was assigned to the 8th Air Force, the 390th Bomb Group, and the 568th Bomb Squadron, Framlingham, Britain, Oct 7, 1943. 'PUB PETE' went MIA, Missing In Action, on a bombing mission to destroy German "V" weapons over Pas de Calais, France, with Clyde Baugher, Co-pilot: Elmer Schwankl, Bombardier: Paul Fabian, Waist gunner: Phil Marizzaldi, chute failed - 4 Killed in Action - Navigator: Charles Lee, Flight engineer/top turret gunner: Albert Redwine, Radio Operator: Carter Lunsford, Ball turret gunner: Walton Beach, Waist gunner: Frank Bongiovanni, Tail gunner: Dick Chin POW. Flak knocked the ship out of formation. Crashed in the sea off Wissant, France, between Boulogne and Calais. Jan 21, 1944. Missing Air Crew Report - MACR 2270.
