Delivered Denver 17 August 1943. Assigned 95th Bomb Group/335th Bomb Squadron, Horham 6 September 1943. 23 missions. Missing in Action Eschweiler 24 January 1944 with Pilot Charles H. Mowers; Co-pilot: Gerald E. Roderick; Flight engineer/top turret gunner: Howard C. Gebert; Radio Operator: Carlton H. Griffin; Ball turret gunner: Ceber M. Creech; Left Waist gunner: Frank A. Bialas; Right Waist gunner: Andrew Torok; Navigator: David W. O’Boyle; Bombardier: Gerald P. Dechambre; Tail gunner: Charles R. Warren. Hit over target, engine #1 feathered, crashed near Glabais, about 10km SE of Waterloo, Belgium. Missing Air Crew Report - MACR 2259. Pilot Mowers Killed in Action (KIA). Four crewmen almost immediately arrested : Roderick, Griffin, Creech and Bialas. Torok and Gebert, helped by the Belgian COMÈTE evasion network fell in a trap set by Belgian traitor Van Muylem and were arrested on 24 April 1944. The others, also helped by COMÈTE, were hidden in various places in Belgium until the Liberation and were back in England during the 2nd week of September 1944.
