Taxi accident (class 4): 7 August 1944 @ 0850 hrs (Pilot error / Mechanical failure)



RAF Little Walden (AAF Station 165)



Pilot / Crew chief: T/Sgt Linn L Llewellyn



Crew chief was detailed to taxi his aircraft back to the squadron dispersal area from the service squadron hanger.



Mechanic did a basic walk-around before taxiing, but failed to note snubber pin on the nose wheel swivel assembly was not engaged.



Aircraft had taxiied 250 yard, and the nose wheel started to shimmy. before the crew chief could bring the aircraft to a halt, the nose gear retracted.



Aircraft was stricken
