Three Spitfires from 58 OTU RAF (Grangemouth) were on a flying exercise were diverted due to bad weather. They were ordered to land at Balado but because of an accident there they made for Perth. En route and still in formation flew into high ground with AR254 and X4614, near the top of King’s Seat in the Ochils, north of Dollar, Clackmannanshire. Cat CE damage 16-1-43. F/O Hugh G ’Bud’ Reynolds RCAF and Fl/Sgt Gordon M Duda RCAF KIA. Sgt Vincent P Daly RAAF [P8276] Survived the crash.
