B-24 Liberator

The B-24D Liberator bomber, SN 41-23809 , 'HELLSADROPPIN II', was assigned to the 329th Bomb Squadron, the 93rd Bomb Group, and TDY, temporary duty, to the 9th Air Force. It flew on the Ploesti mission and aborted shortly after leaving the Libyan coast with engine trouble. - 1 Aug 1943. - Later returned to the ETO in Britain to serve as a high vis formation plane.

It was declared "War Weary" and became a high visibility formation ship with the 448th Bomb Group, and the 8th Air Force in Britain. It was condemned as salvage on 15 Jan 1945.

This airplane should not be confused with the B-24D, SN # 41-23723, also named, 'Hellsadroppin', which also was in the 8th Air Force, the 93rd Bomb Group, and the 329th Bomb Squadron
