25 July 1944: B-17G serial 44-6183 of the 342nd Bomb Sq, 97th BG takes a direct hit from flak over Linz, Austria.

Capt Jack W. Murphy and his crew were blown from the aircraft when it exploded; four of them, including Murphy, survived to spend the remainder of hostilities as POWs (MACR 7125).
