Delivered Cheyenne 24/2/44; Kearney 17/3/44; Grenier 6/4/44; Assigned 511BS/351BG [DS-U] Polebrook 12/4/44; {66m} battle damaged Brandenberg 6/8/44 with Chas Woodrum, aro-Raoul Brickman, Radio Operator: Bernard Levins, Ball turret gunner: Andy Bevin, Waist gunner: Walt Rankin, Waist gunner: Arnold Lomen,Tail gunner: Lt Don Fish (7 Returned to Duty); Navigator: Ellis Tompkins, Xn-Paul Tuerck (2MIA); Co-pilot: Bill Rohrbacher, Bombardier: Virgil Carneal, Flight engineer/top turret gunner: Nick Marcinizyn (3 Prisoner of War). flak ko’d #4 engine, caught fire, but after feathering and using fire extinguisher to no avail, pilot gave order to abandon ship, when the latter three crewmen bailed out. However Woodrum dived the ship and managed to put the fire out and found some of the crew had bailed, then he ordered up TG-Fish up front to act as co-pilot, and shuffled the rest but then lost another engine north of Hamburg. Losing altitude all the way back the ship eventually crash landed at Leiston, Sfk. air base. Repaired and back to operations but on 25/8/44 with Woodrum was taxying and hit a tow-target B-17E 9121 knocking wing off, while ‘381 was also damaged; on t/o for mission to Euskirchen with Ray Butler 10/1/45 the front hatchcame open, he cut throttles and slid off runway and badly damaged; Returned to the USA Bradley 31/5/45; 4168 Base Unit, South Plains, Texas 21/10/45; Reconstruction Finance Corporation (sold for scrap metal in USA) Kingman 14/12/45. LINDA BALL II.
