Corrected the identification of Sylvester Marshall. He is standing first on the left rather than fourth on the left.
Marshall was identified by his daughter Sylvia Marshall Durphey.

Delivered Cheyenne 8 February 1944; Grand Island 20 February 1944; Grenier 22 March 1944; Assigned 544BS/384BG [SU-A] Grafton Underwood 6 April 1944.



Missing in Action Coulommiers airfield, France 14 June 1944. Attacked by about 10 enemy aircraft, crashed near Voves, Eure-et-Loir, South-East of Chartres, France. Missing Air Crew Report - MACR 5800.



Pilot: Robert D. Summerville;

Co-pilot: Jean D. Vogt;

Bombardier: Ralph E. Eisenach;

Navigator: Abraham Wiseman (on his first mission with the Summerville crew);

Radio Operator: John H. McClanahan Jr;

Engineer/Top Turret Gunner: Alfred I. Holt;

Ball Turret Gunner : Frank La Rocca;

Right Waist Gunner : Sylvester J. Marshall;

Tail gunner: Thomas J. Harris.



2 men were killed in the mid-air explosion of the B-17: Pilot Summerville and Co-Pilot Vogt.



Tail Gunner Harris, wounded, was sent to a hospital in Chartres where his leg was amputated; He died there on 16 June 1944.



Radioman McClanahan managed at first to evade capture but was arrested (20 June 1944) and sent to the Buchenwald camp, then transferred to Stalag Luft 3 in Poland.



Eisenach, La Rocca and Marshall were captured and sent to camps also.



Only 2 men managed to make a successful evasion, thanks to the Belgian Evasion network Comète: Abe Wiseman and Alfred Holt.
