Bio
I am a retired adult education social historian, specialising in life on the Home Front in England during the Second World War. My main research field has been the history of the Women's Land Army and I have published numerous articles and a major study of one county: "We wouldn't have missed it for the world: the Women's Land Army in Bedfordshire, 1939-1950" (Book Castle Publishing, 2008). My related website on Bedfordshire Women's Land Army is hosted by Bedfordshire Libraries and I am also a historical advisor to the national website: www.womenslandarmy.co.uk . I have deposited audio oral history interviews with former Bedfordshire land girls with the IWM Sound Archive, which include memories of American servicemen they met during WWII.
