I am an American newscaster living in Berlin. My granfather, Lt. Col. Fred Wright, was shot down over Boppard, Germany in October, 1944 as co-pilot of the B-24 Klusmeyer crew, 458th Bomb Group, 755th Bomb Squadron. He was later transferred to Stalag Luft 3, and escaped on one of the sporadic marches ordered after the ``Great Escape.'' He then got home to Bexley, Ohio, married my grandmother and had my mom! While working at General Motors until retirement. He died of complications Parkinson's Disease in June of 1999, at the age of 78.
