Son of Wilbourne E. Blount of 384th Bomb Group stationed in Grafton-Underwood in 1943. My Dad died in 1972 at the age of 57. I am real proud of his service in combat during WWII over the skies of occupied Europe. He was awarded the US Air Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross, two Oak Leaf Clusters. He reached the rank of Captain after starting his service as a Second Lt. after completing the Air Cadet Program. He was a Navigator on the B-17 "Little America" and completed the required 25 missions before returning to serve as a Navigator Trainer in Houston.
