63rd Fighter Wing


US Air Force Combat Units of World War II Description

Constituted as 2d Air Defense Wing on 12 Dec 1942 and activated the same day. Moved to North Africa in Jan 1943. Redesignated 63d Fighter Wing in July 1943. Operated with Twelfth AF until Nov 1944 when the wing moved to the European theatre and lost its combat elements. Returned to the US in Dec 1945. Inactivated on 11 Dec 1945
