Details regarding the formation of the 1068th are incomplete. They were a part of the 318th Service Group while at USAAF Station 488. On 17 Jan 1944, detachment “A” was formed and made part of Service Team “B”. Men and equipment were transferred to USAAF Station 467 using Air Transport. The travel time was a mere 1 hour 15 minutes. On 26 August 1944 the company was reassigned from the 9th Air Force to the IX Troop Carrier Command. In October 1944 the unit constructed a Day Room by converting a glider crate. Departure to the Far Shore was accomplished in stages beginning in late-February 1945. All headquarters personnel and equipment were located at USAAF Air Strip A-80, Mourmelon-le-Grande, France by 14 March 1945.
