Anthony L Galasso
Military ROLL OF HONOURKilled in Action on 8/1/43 while TDY to 9thAF for Ploesti raid in B-24 'Lady Jane' 42-40804.
He was a radio operator for the 329th 93rd Bomb Group. Sgt. Galasso lost his life in "Operation Tidal Wave", one of the most daring raids of WWII. Coming in at tree top level the 93rd attacked the Concordia-Vega oil refinery. He and his crew were on the "Lady Jane" that crashed near Ploestiori village north of the refineries, killing nine of the 10 crew members. Sgt. Galasso was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for valor on this mission. The 93rd earned Presidential Unit Citation.
