Harold Leonard Tamboer
Military ROLL OF HONOURsecond cousin Marge Tamboer
Harold (“Harry”) Tamboer was born and raised in Clifton, New Jersey. After attending School 5 on Valley Road and Clifton High School, he worked in North Bergen before entering the service in September 1942. He had his training at Seymour Johnson Field, North Carolina and at the Douglas Aircraft School in California. After receiving his wings at Buckingham Field, Fort Myers, Florida, he was sent overseas in February 1944. His father Abram was a salesman for a plumbing-supply dealer and passed away shortly after receiving news that his son had gone overseas. Harry’s last letter home was dated 24 April 1944, the day before his final mission (which was believed to be his 11th one). In June 1944, his family received the War Department message that Harold Tamboer had died in a raid over Europe on 25 April 1944. Killed In Action (KIA).
