Sgt. Murphy was a waist gunner on John McCormick's crew on the B-24D, Vagabond King. He flew on, and survived, Operation Tidal Wave. 1 Aug 1943. Back in the U.K. and the 8th Air Force, he was later shot down by FW-190 fighter planes over the North Sea and killed in action in the B-24D, 42-40787, Vagabond King. The plane crashed into the North Sea (FTR) with all crewmembers killed in action. 10 KIA. 18 November 1943. MACR 2885
