Object Number - UPL 20525 - 80th birthday spent on a flight aboard a WWII trainer - which George once flew in flight school.

George left the civil engineering program at the University of Texas, El Paso in 1944 to follow his older brother and sister through military enlistment. His brother, Robert, served as a Naval pilot in the PTO, while his sister, Joy, accepted a commission as an administrative officer in the Navy working for the War Department in Washington, D.C..

Following George's service in the ETO with 38 missions completed, and the death of his brother in Leyte Gulf, George accepted a spot in flight training and requested fighter duty in the PTO. The war ended before George made it to Asia.

George returned to the Washington, D.C. area where he completed his engineering degree at George Washington University, and met Francis White - who became his wife soon after. George began a career with the then-Atomic Energy Commission, and later with the Federal Emergency Management Agency inspecting nuclear power plants for safety and security.

George and Fran raised three children: Jane Ware (1949), Robert Tuttle (1952), and George Hoadley (1955), and enjoyed 6 grandchildren. They made their home in Northern Virginia where they lived out the remainder of their lives.
