Frederick Trowbridge Marston
MilitaryFrederick Marston was Co-Pilot on B-17 #42-3330, shot down over France on the 14 July 1944 mission to the Villacoublay airfield. Marston evaded capture at first, together with Sgt Eino Asiala and Sgt Richard H. Lewis, both from the 42-3190 crew, shot down on the same day. All three were helped by French citizens and the underground, but were denounced to the Gestapo by a French infiltrator who was later killed by the Resistance in woods near Chateauroux. The three men were arrested in Paris at the end of August and 2nd Lt Frederick Marston was interned at Stalag Luft 1 (South Compound) in Barth, Germany. Prisoner of War (POW).
