Fred DeWig was captured when his plane went down, and he served the remainder of the war in various POW camps.   The last year of his inceration was spent in the infamous Stalag 17B camp near Krems, Austria, where he was housed in Barracks 39B.

My father was also in Barracks 39B and was good friends with Fred.   I visited with Fred on several occasions, and this information is based on my personal discussions with him and my father.
