Fred H. Tate was born in 1923 in Lepanto, Arkansas. He joined the USAAF in 1943, trained as a navigator and was assigned to the Kuhl crew in the 305th Bombardment Group's 364th Bombardment Squadron. He arrived at Chelveston, England in December 1944 and flew 35 missions between December 1944 and April 1945.
