Frank C Ammann served as a pilot with the 91st Bomb Group.



On 30 December 1943 on takeoff for mission to chemical works at Ludwigshaven, the #3 engine caught fire 2/3rds of the way down the runway then #1 engine caught fire. Pilot Ammann crash-landed at Steeple Morten airfield. All ten of the crew were able to return to duty (RTD).



On 11 April 1944, Ammann was shot down in B-17 #42-39929 'Lackin Shakin'. They were able to land in Sweden and the crew were interned.
