Shot down 3 November 1943 in B-17 #42-29852 'Fireball'. Killed in Action (KIA 03 Nov 1943 Special crew Comment. 1. Capt, J.H. Mohundro observed Lt. Nardi A/C 749 two FW 190s were attacking him constantly. After attempting to keep his plane in formation, Lt. Nardi was forced to fall out. During all the while, and even after the members of the crew had started bailing out, the top gunner was seen to be keeping up a constant stream of fire at the enemy fighters. When Lt. Nardi's plane was last seen, the top turret guns were still firing. The top gunner T/Sgt. Frank Swica, and Lt. J.H. Mohundro states that if there is any decoration that could possibly be bestowed on him, it most certainly should be don???. According to Lt. J.H. Mohundro, the man did a heroic job. JOHN L.
