Arrived in England July 1943, to Bengazo, back to Shipdham, to Tunis. 1 October 1943, in ac B-24 41-23936 'Queen Anne' was attacked by fighters on bombing run on Wiener, Austria. 2 crewmembers bailed out near Vienna to become Prisoner of War (POW)s. McKenney crash landed near Foggia. McKenny was injured by a fighter attack at the windshield. He was put in the British field hospital. Arrived back in the states 24 Dec 1943. (Note: 44th unit history has more details as to missions, etc. )
