Shot down 11 December 1943 in B-17 #423488. Prisoner of War (POW).
He was originally sheltered by members of the Dutch resistance - spending months in the house of Tiny Mulder. At the end of May 1944 they attempted an escape route via Antwerp but were betrayed by some locals and landed up at Stalag Luft 111 in Sagan.
