On April 1, 1944, he was serving as a Gunner aboard B-24 tail #41-29463 of the 445th Bomb Group, 702nd Bomb Squadron, when it crashed shortly after takeoff at Long Stratton, England.
He is buried in the Long Island National Cemetery at Farmingdale, New York.
