Edward L Maslanka
MilitaryCopilot on 2nd Lt. Wesley D. Peterson crew. Shot down 6 September 1943 in B-17 #4230163. Lt. Maslanka and Lt. Winter (Bombardier) were both injured in bailing out of the bomb bay. Maslanka suffered a broken rib and Winter serious injuries to his left leg and hip. Reunited soon after landing, they were hidden by the French. Maslanka, however, wanted to move on quickly and get out of the area, so he left. Winter was unable to walk easily for more than a week and stayed close to the place where he had landed. Winter finally recovered enough for the Underground to move him along, and he arrived in Spain on 10 October. Maslanka did not get there until the 25th. Winter was back in England on 3 November and Maslanka arrived 20 November.
More information can be found in his file.
