2nd Lieutenant Edward J. Kempker was born December 25, 1919. His next of kin were his parents, John and Katherine Kempker. He also had a brother, Corporal John C. Kempker, of the 133rd Infantry Regiment, killed in action in Italy on October 2, 1943. His hometown was Le Mars, Iowa.
On November 5, 1943, he was the Bombardier of “Big Assed Bird,” B-24 tail #42-7490, of the 392nd Bomb Group, 578th Bomb Squadron, when it was downed over Udem, Germany.
He is buried in the US Military Cemetery at Neuville-en-Condroz, Belgium.
