This crew was shot down by Me109's over the Netherlands on 15 August 1944. Archer, Bell, Peck, Lehman and Philo were all KIA. McCarty, Lowen and Capps were all captured. Clark successfully evaded capture. Stegall was not aboard when the crew were shot down however the 466th BG Ammunition Officer ,William Leslie was aboard and was also captured.

west of Steenwijk, Netherlands 15 August 1944 Edward B. "Bart" PHILO was part of the US Army Air Force during WW II. He was part of the 8th Army Air Corp; 466th Bomb Group; 986th Bomb Squad stationed at Air Base #120, Attlebridge, Norwich, England. He was shot down over the Netherlands on 15 Aug 1944, along with 3 other planes from his squadron. He was the Flight Engineer/Top Turret Gunner on the B-24 called "True Love" and there was a crew of 10 aboard. 5 were killed and 5 survived. Those killed were: Pilot, John S. ARCHER; Co-Pilot, Thomas L. BELL; Navigator, Norman PECK; Tail gunner, Robert J. LEHMAN and Turret gunner, Edward B. PHILO
