Flew 16 fighter-escort, dive-bombing and napalm-bombing missions in P-47s from Ie Shima, near Okinawa, in July and August 1945. Witnessed the Nagasaki atom bomb explosion from the air on 9 August 1945. Released from active duty in October 1946.
