Dwight W Parken
MilitaryFlew on Franklin Morrell's crew. On 2 June '44 after a misson to Rouen, France, plane tried to crash land, had no brakes. The plane veered off to the right and hit the wing of another aircraft and then crashed head-on into a parked aircraft. All the planes caught fire, sending 50 caliber shells exploding, projectiles and pieces of metal flew through the air. With the efforts of Lt. Tangherline, engineering officer and Sergeant. Herb Mayer, a flight chief, the entire crew escaped without injury. Tangherline and Mayer both received Bronze Stars for their heroism. Parken's plane was named 'Skunk Hollow'.
